Carnival Cruise Line Auckland Port Guide 2026/27: Splendor, Adventure & Cruises From Auckland
Last checked: 17 August 2026
Carnival's relationship with Auckland is about to get much bigger.
During the main 2026/27 summer cruise season, Carnival Splendor visits Auckland as part of its New Zealand programme from Sydney.
Then in May 2027:
Auckland becomes a Carnival homeport.
Carnival Adventure will spend May to July 2027 sailing directly from Auckland, with Carnival announcing nine departures to destinations including Norfolk Island, Fiji, Vanuatu and New Caledonia. It is Carnival Cruise Line's first-ever homeport season in Auckland.
That's an important milestone.
Auckland isn't simply somewhere Carnival passengers visit for six or eight hours.
It becomes somewhere passengers:
Begin their holiday.
End their holiday.
Stay in hotels.
Eat.
Shop.
Explore before sailing.
Explore after disembarking.
And that moves Auckland another step towards becoming a genuine South Pacific cruise hub rather than simply another port of call.
This guide covers:
Carnival Splendor in Auckland
Carnival Adventure's first Auckland homeport season
Current 2026/27 and 2027 dates
Queens Wharf
The former P&O Australia ships and their new Carnival names
Auckland embarkation
Auckland disembarkation
Independent shore excursions

Sky Tower

And first:
One naming update worth getting right.
P&O Australia Is Now Carnival
If you've cruised Australia or New Zealand before, you may remember:
Pacific Adventure
and:
Pacific Encounter.
Those names are no longer current.
Carnival confirmed that P&O Cruises Australia's Pacific Adventure and Pacific Encounter joined Carnival Cruise Line in March 2025, becoming:
Carnival Adventure
and:
Carnival Encounter.
Carnival Adventure now sails from Sydney and selected ports including Auckland, while Carnival Encounter is based year-round in Brisbane.
So throughout current-facing Vintage Views content we should use:
Carnival Adventure
not:
Pacific Adventure
and:
Carnival Encounter
not:
Pacific Encounter.
Historical pages can obviously explain the old names.
Current Auckland visitor pages should use the current brand.

Carnival Splendor Auckland — 18 October 2026
The first Carnival Auckland visit of the season is:
Sunday 18 October 2026.
Ports of Auckland currently lists:
Ship: Carnival Splendor
Wharf: Queens Wharf
Port arrival: 6:30am
Departure: 6:30pm
Previous port: Tauranga
Next port: Bay of Islands / Paihia.
Carnival's passenger itinerary for the corresponding New Zealand sailing gives Auckland as approximately:
8:15am–6:30pm.
That difference is normal.
Ports of Auckland explains that its expected-arrival time is the pilot-boarding time, with approximately 1.5 hours from the pilot station to berth.
So passengers should plan around:
Carnival's passenger-facing timing.
Not simply the earliest port-operational time.
18 October Is a Big Auckland Cruise Day
Carnival Splendor isn't arriving alone.
On the same day:
Celebrity Solstice
is scheduled at Princes Wharf — and remains in Auckland overnight into 19 October.
That means two major ships will be in downtown Auckland simultaneously.
Expect:
Busy waterfront areas
Strong tour demand
Busy taxis
Busy attractions
Busy restaurants
More passengers around Commercial Bay and Viaduct
If Double Decker Discovery is something you specifically want to do:
Book ahead.
Carnival Splendor Auckland — 9 January 2027
Carnival Splendor returns on:
Saturday 9 January 2027.
Ports of Auckland currently lists:
Wharf: Queens
Arrival: 6:30am
Departure: 6:30pm
Previous port: Tauranga
Next port: Bay of Islands / Paihia.
This is peak Auckland summer.
Long daylight.
School holidays.
Waterfront weather — hopefully.
And a lot of people with exactly the same idea about visiting Auckland.
Again:
Pre-book the things you care about.
About Carnival Splendor
Carnival currently lists Carnival Splendor at:
113,573 gross tonnes
3,012 guest capacity
952 feet long
1,150 crew.
Onboard features promoted by Carnival include:
WaterWorks
Green Lightning waterslide
Cloud 9 Spa
Serenity adults-only retreat
Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse
Entertainment and comedy venues.
So Carnival brings quite a lot of entertainment aboard.
Our suggestion for Auckland?
Do something different.
Get off.
See the city.
Where Does Carnival Splendor Dock in Auckland?
For both currently scheduled Splendor visits:
Queens Wharf.
That is excellent news for passengers.
Queens Wharf is Auckland's primary downtown cruise berth.
Walk through Shed 10.
Leave the wharf.
And you're essentially in the CBD.
Nearby you have:
Commercial Bay
Lower Queen Street
Waitematā Station
Downtown Ferry Terminal
Britomart
Viaduct Harbour
No long shuttle required.

Carnival Adventure Is Coming to Auckland
And now we get to the big story.
Carnival announced in October 2025 that:
Carnival Adventure will homeport in Auckland from May to July 2027.
This is part of Carnival's 2027/28 regional programme and represents the line's first-ever homeport season in Auckland.
Carnival says Adventure will offer:
A new four-night Norfolk Island itinerary
Nine-night Fiji and South Pacific itineraries
Ten-night Vanuatu and New Caledonia itineraries
A final four-night one-way Auckland-to-Sydney cruise
for:
Nine Auckland departures.
The final Auckland departure is currently scheduled for:
29 July 2027.
This is a genuinely major development for Auckland cruising.
Why Carnival Homeporting in Auckland Matters
A transit cruise passenger may spend:
Six hours.
Eight hours.
Ten hours.
Then sail away.
A homeport passenger behaves differently.
They may:
Fly into Auckland.
Stay overnight.
Stay several nights.
Need an airport transfer.
Eat in Auckland.
Explore before sailing.
Shop.
Visit attractions.
Need accommodation after returning.
Add a wider New Zealand holiday.
That's why homeporting matters so much more than simply counting ship visits.
Carnival's decision puts Auckland alongside Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide in its expanded Australia/New Zealand homeport programme.
For Auckland tourism?
That's a strong vote of confidence.
Carnival Adventure Auckland Dates
The live Ports of Auckland schedule currently shows Carnival Adventure-related calls at Queens Wharf on:
25 May 2027
3 June 2027
7 June 2027
17 June 2027
26 June 2027
6 July 2027
15 July 2027
19 July 2027
29 July 2027.
That lines up with Carnival's announcement of nine Auckland departures between May and July 2027.
Small naming note
The current Ports of Auckland schedule displays the vessel as:
CARNIVAL ADVENTURER
for these dates.
Carnival Cruise Line's own official ship and itinerary pages identify the ship as:
Carnival Adventure.
For this guide, we use the cruise line's official name:
Carnival Adventure.
Carnival Adventure's First Auckland Season
Carnival's announced programme includes a nice mix.
Norfolk Island
A new four-night cruise from Auckland.
Carnival currently advertises the voyage as:
Auckland → Norfolk Island → Auckland, with a 4pm Auckland departure.
Fiji & South Pacific
Nine-night cruises including:
Suva
Lautoka
Dravuni Island.
Vanuatu & New Caledonia
Ten-night programmes visiting combinations of:
Mystery Island
Port Vila
Lifou
Nouméa
Norfolk Island.
Auckland to Sydney
The season finishes with a four-night one-way sailing from Auckland to Sydney on 29 July 2027.
For Kiwi cruisers?
That's a genuinely attractive addition to the market.
No international flight required to start the holiday.
About Carnival Adventure
Carnival currently lists Adventure at:
108,865 gross tonnes
2,636 guest capacity
951 feet long
1,100 crew.
The ship has:
13 passenger decks
Waterslides
Four pools
Edge Adventure Park
Ziplining
Rock climbing
Abseiling
Kids clubs
Bars
Dining and entertainment.
And because this ship has history in our part of the world, some Australians and New Zealanders will recognise her instantly.
Was Carnival Adventure Previously Pacific Adventure?
Yes.
Carnival Adventure was previously:
Pacific Adventure.
Carnival integrated Pacific Adventure and Pacific Encounter into the Carnival brand in March 2025.
Many familiar P&O features remained aboard, including:
Byron Beach Club
Edge Adventure Park
Angelo's
Dragon Lady
Luke's Bar & Grill
Blanc de Blanc
alongside Carnival experiences added through the transition.
So for former P&O passengers:
It may feel familiar.
But the correct current name is:
Carnival Adventure.
What Happened to Pacific Encounter?
Pacific Encounter became:
Carnival Encounter.
Carnival says Encounter now homeports year-round in Brisbane, while Adventure operates primarily from Sydney plus selected homeports including Auckland.
At the time of our 17 August 2026 check, Carnival Encounter does not appear on the current Ports of Auckland cruise schedule.
So we should not make Encounter a major Auckland focus simply because old P&O material once referenced Pacific Encounter.
For Auckland:
Splendor + Adventure
are the important current ships.
Carnival Cruises From Auckland
Carnival now has a dedicated Cruise From Auckland programme and currently lists both Carnival Adventure and Carnival Splendor in its Auckland destination environment.
But the standout Auckland homeport programme is:
Carnival Adventure — May to July 2027.
That gives us a major SEO cluster to build:
Carnival cruises from Auckland
Carnival Adventure Auckland
cruises departing Auckland 2027
Auckland Carnival cruise terminal
Carnival Adventure Queens Wharf
Auckland to Fiji cruise
Auckland to Vanuatu cruise
Auckland to Norfolk Island cruise
This page should target all of those naturally.
Where Will Carnival Adventure Depart From in Auckland?
The current Ports of Auckland schedule assigns every listed May–July Adventure call to:
Queens Wharf.
That gives Carnival homeport passengers an excellent location.
Queens Wharf sits directly downtown.
Nearby you have:
Hotels
Restaurants
Commercial Bay
Britomart
Ferries
Public transport
Waterfront
Sky Tower within the CBD
From a passenger point of view:
This is about as convenient as a city cruise terminal gets.
Berths can change, so always follow Carnival's final embarkation documentation.
But Queens Wharf is the current published plan.
Auckland's New Cruise Infrastructure & Carnival
There is another interesting piece of timing.
Carnival Adventure begins its Auckland homeport season in:
May 2027.
By then Auckland's new Bledisloe North / Te Waharoa large-ship cruise infrastructure is expected to be entering operation.
Meanwhile the current Adventure schedule remains assigned to:
Queens Wharf.
That actually demonstrates the strength of Auckland's future cruise model.
Different facilities for different ship requirements.
Large-ship infrastructure
Bledisloe North / Te Waharoa.
Established downtown passenger operations
Queens Wharf / Shed 10.
And Ports of Auckland has separately announced plans to further improve Shed 10 ahead of the 2027/28 cruise season.
Read our Te Waharoa & Bledisloe North Guide →
Auckland is increasingly becoming a cruise network, not simply one berth.
If Your Carnival Cruise Starts in Auckland
This is where I would make Vintage Views much more useful than a generic cruise-line page.
You're not asking:
“What do I do during an eight-hour port call?”
You're asking:
“How do I make Auckland part of my holiday?”
Our answer:
Arrive early.
If you're coming from elsewhere in New Zealand:
Spend a night.
If you're flying internationally:
Definitely consider arriving at least a day before sailing.
Then your cruise begins with:
Auckland.
Not:
airport → traffic → luggage queue → ship.
A Great Pre-Cruise Auckland Day
If Carnival Adventure sails at 4pm, as Carnival's currently advertised Auckland itineraries do, don't try to fit an entire city holiday into embarkation morning.
Instead:
Day Before
Arrive Auckland.
Check into hotel.
Explore waterfront.
Have dinner.
Embarkation Morning
Breakfast.
A short Auckland activity if your check-in time comfortably allows.
Then:
Ship.
Much more civilised.
Where Should I Stay Before a Carnival Cruise?
For easiest cruise logistics, look around:
Downtown Auckland
Britomart
Viaduct Harbour
Lower Queen Street.
These areas keep you close to Queens Wharf and the city's major visitor attractions.
The entire point of arriving early is to remove stress.
Booking accommodation an hour outside Auckland and fighting traffic back to Queens Wharf somewhat defeats the exercise.
What Should I Do Before Boarding Carnival Adventure?
If your embarkation slot leaves plenty of time:
Waterfront
Easy.
Commercial Bay
Food and shopping.
Maritime Museum
Good option if you want something structured.
Double Decker Discovery
Potentially useful if your booking time allows sufficient embarkation margin.
Sky Tower
Possible, but don't overpack embarkation morning.
Our preference?
If you have a full free day:
Do the sightseeing the day before.
On sailing day:
Relax.
What Should I Do After a Carnival Adventure Cruise?
This is the reverse opportunity.
Carnival's round-trip Auckland itineraries commonly list return arrival around:
7:00am.
If your flight isn't until evening:
You potentially have most of another Auckland day.
Don't automatically go straight to Auckland Airport.
Store luggage.
Then consider:
Double Decker Discovery
Sky Tower
Viaduct lunch
Auckland Art Gallery
Maritime Museum
Shopping
Devonport
Then head to the airport.
A cruise finishing at 7am does not mean your holiday needs to finish at 7:20am.
Carnival Splendor Passengers: Auckland Shore Excursions
For Splendor passengers visiting rather than embarking:
Auckland is extremely simple.
Queens Wharf puts you downtown.
Our Double Decker Discovery takes approximately 90 minutes and gives you a broad overview of the city before returning to central Auckland.
The route includes:
Auckland CBD
Tāmaki Drive
Mission Bay
Parnell
Grafton
Karangahape Road
Ponsonby
Auckland Harbour Bridge
Then:
The rest of Auckland is yours.

Why Carnival Families Suit the 90-Minute Tour
Carnival explicitly positions Adventure around families, couples and groups, with extensive children's activities and attractions aboard.
For families in Auckland, the advantage of a short city tour is:
You don't spend the entire day sitting on another vehicle.
Children get:
Red double-decker bus
Upper deck
Beaches
Harbour views
Bridge crossing
Then after approximately 90 minutes:
You can do something else.
Like:
Sky Tower.
Maritime Museum.
Wētā Workshop Unleashed.
Ferry.
Or the wildly underrated family tourism experience:
Lunch.
Carnival Auckland With Children
Our preferred combination:
Morning
Double Decker Discovery.
Then
Choose one.
Sky Tower
Great first-time Auckland attraction.
Maritime Museum
Very easy from the waterfront.
Wētā Workshop Unleashed
Interactive entertainment.
All Blacks Experience
Particularly for sports families.
Devonport ferry
Short harbour adventure.
Don't choose all five.
You're on holiday.
Carnival Auckland for Couples
Carnival isn't only families.
A good Auckland couple's day:
Double Decker Discovery
then:
Viaduct lunch
then:
Sky Tower
then:
Britomart drinks.
For Splendor's January call:
Add some summer waterfront time.
For Adventure embarkation guests:
Turn that into a pre-cruise night.
Carnival Auckland for Older Travellers
Queens Wharf makes Auckland particularly easy.
You can create a day with:
Limited walking
Seated sightseeing
Waterfront dining
One attraction
Easy return to the ship
For Vintage Views:
Dorothy is a genuine vintage Routemaster.
She has steps.
The upper deck has an internal staircase.
If mobility is a significant concern:
Contact us before booking and we'll give you realistic guidance.
Carnival Splendor — What Should I Do With 8–10 Hours?
Carnival's October itinerary currently gives passengers roughly 8:15am–6:30pm in Auckland.
That's a very good port day.
Try:
1. Double Decker Discovery
90 minutes.
2. Sky Tower
City from above.
3. Lunch
Viaduct / Britomart / Commercial Bay.
4. One afternoon activity
Maritime Museum.
Art Gallery.
Shopping.
Or Devonport.
5. Ship
Comfortably early.
You don't need to drive hundreds of kilometres to have had a substantial Auckland experience.
Should Carnival Passengers Visit Hobbiton From Auckland?
Look at the whole cruise itinerary first.
The October Splendor itinerary visits:
Tauranga
before:
Auckland.
For passengers interested in Hobbiton or Rotorua, that may influence where the longer regional excursion makes the most sense.
Don't automatically use your Auckland day to leave Auckland.
Cruise planning works better when you compare:
Port against port.
Should Carnival Passengers Visit Waiheke?
Possible.
Particularly with a long call.
But it requires:
Ferry
Island transport
Activity
Return ferry
Ship margin
For first-time Auckland visitors we would usually favour:
Auckland city + harbour.
For repeat visitors?
Waiheke becomes much more attractive.
What If It Rains?
Carnival has a lot of indoor fun aboard.
Auckland does too.
Double Decker Discovery
Dorothy is enclosed.
Commercial Bay
Shopping and food.
Maritime Museum
Excellent waterfront option.
Sky Tower
Mostly indoors.
Auckland Art Gallery
Central.
Wētā Workshop Unleashed
Indoor.
Don't stay aboard purely because the weather icon contains a cloud.
Auckland rain often moves quickly.
Carnival Splendor + Celebrity Solstice: 18 October
This deserves an exact-date page.
On 18 October:
Carnival Splendor
Queens Wharf.
Celebrity Solstice
Princes Wharf, staying overnight.
That's a major two-ship Auckland day.
For passengers it means:
More competition for tours
Busier attractions
More taxi demand
Busier waterfront restaurants
But also:
A brilliant cruise atmosphere downtown.
Two large cruise ships sitting beside central Auckland should make the waterfront feel properly alive.
Future page:
Carnival Splendor — Auckland — 18 October 2026
That one should be refreshed several days before arrival.
Carnival Adventure Turns Auckland Into a Cruise Departure City
This may be the most important section on the whole page.
For years, many New Zealand cruisers have effectively had to think:
Sydney first.
Then:
Cruise.
Carnival Adventure's Auckland homeport programme changes that for its May–July 2027 sailings. Carnival says the programme responds to New Zealand demand for convenient cruise holidays and gives guests voyages directly from Auckland to the South Pacific.
That means a family from:
Christchurch.
Wellington.
Queenstown.
Hamilton.
Tauranga.
or Auckland itself
can begin with:
Auckland.
And that has real potential to grow the local cruise market.
Why Winter Cruising From Auckland Is Interesting
Carnival Adventure's Auckland season runs:
May–July.
That is clever.
It gives Auckland cruise activity outside the classic peak summer cruise season.
Passengers leave New Zealand winter behind and head towards:
Fiji
Vanuatu
New Caledonia
Norfolk Island.
For local hotels, transport providers, attractions and hospitality businesses:
That potentially helps spread cruise-related demand beyond the traditional November–March concentration.
From a tourism perspective?
That's a very positive development.
Auckland as a Carnival Homeport: Bigger Picture
This should tie directly into our Te Waharoa page.
Auckland is simultaneously:
Building new large-ship cruise infrastructure
Improving cruise-terminal capability
Strengthening Shed 10
Attracting new homeport operations
Supporting more direct cruise departures
And now Carnival has committed to its first Auckland homeport season.
Those aren't isolated events.
Together they tell a much stronger story:
Auckland is becoming more important to the cruise industry.
Not less.
An Important Schedule Naming Difference
This is exactly the kind of information an authoritative cruise site should explain rather than quietly ignore.
Ports of Auckland's live schedule currently displays:
CARNIVAL ADVENTURER
for the May–July 2027 calls.
Carnival's official website consistently uses:
Carnival Adventure.
Carnival Adventure is the name passengers should use.
If you see Carnival Adventurer on the Auckland port schedule:
It appears to refer to the same Carnival Adventure homeport programme.
This is also why it's useful to cross-check both:
The port.
and:
The cruise line.

Our Recommended Carnival Splendor Auckland Day

You're downtown.
Step 2 — Double Decker Discovery

Our Recommended Carnival Adventure Pre-Cruise Stay
Day Before Sailing
Arrive Auckland.
Hotel downtown.
Afternoon
Double Decker Discovery.
Evening
Viaduct or Britomart dinner.
Sailing Morning
Breakfast.
Waterfront.
Then:
Carnival Adventure.
Instead of your holiday beginning inside a queue at Queens Wharf:
It begins in Auckland.
That is exactly why homeport cruising can be so good for the city.
Why Carnival's Auckland Move Is Good News
This goes beyond Carnival.
A major international cruise line choosing Auckland for a first homeport season says something about the city.
Carnival can deploy ships in many places.
For May–July 2027 it has chosen Auckland as one of five Australia/New Zealand homeports, alongside Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide.
That creates:
More local cruise choice
More hotel demand
More pre/post-cruise tourism
More airport and ground transport
More spending in Auckland
More cruise visibility through winter
More reason for New Zealand travellers to cruise without first travelling to Australia
And it arrives just as Auckland is investing heavily in its wider cruise infrastructure.
That's a pretty strong combination.
