Vintage Views & Kiwi Coaches — Elevating Your Auckland Wedding Transport Experience
When you picture your perfect wedding day in Auckland, you probably think about the dress, the venue, the photographer, the flowers and the first dance. But there’s one piece of the puzzle that quietly holds everything together: wedding transport.
How your bridal party and guests move between ceremony, photo locations and reception can be the difference between a calm, elegant day and a stressful, disjointed one. That’s where Vintage Views and Kiwi Coaches come in – working together to provide unforgettable, reliable wedding transport in and around Auckland.
Vintage Views brings the magic: a lovingly restored, classic London double-decker bus – the kind of vehicle that makes people stop, stare and grab their cameras. (And just to be crystal clear: she’s a classic double-decker, not an open-top bus – fully enclosed and comfortable in all weather.)
Kiwi Coaches brings the backbone: one of Auckland’s most trusted coach operators, with a large, modern fleet, experienced drivers and decades of knowledge moving groups of all sizes safely and smoothly.
Together, they’re a complete wedding transport solution for couples who want their guests to arrive on time, together, and in style.
Why Wedding Transport Matters More Than You Think
It’s easy to underestimate transport. After all, “it’s just getting from A to B”, right?
In reality, especially in Auckland, wedding transport plays a huge role in how smoothly your day runs and how relaxed everyone feels.
Keeping Everyone Together
If guests use their own cars, you end up with:
People stuck looking for parking
Guests arriving late or at different times
Confusion about directions and traffic
Extra stress for the couple and bridal party
With a coordinated wedding bus or coach, everyone travels together. They arrive as a group, on time, and you remove the “Where do we park?” chaos from your day.
Comfort and Safety for Your Guests
A wedding isn’t just about the couple – it’s about taking care of your friends and family too.
Older guests don’t have to drive at night
Out-of-towners don’t have to navigate unfamiliar Auckland roads
Nobody has to worry about having a drink and then driving home
Late-night guest shuttles are one of the simplest ways to keep everyone safe after the reception.
Adding Style and Story
Your transport doesn’t have to be invisible. A vintage double-decker bus instantly becomes part of the story:
It looks incredible in photos
It becomes a talking point for guests
It adds character, personality and fun
Arriving on a classic red London bus is a true “wow” moment – it signals to your guests that this is not just another wedding, but an experience.
Making Life Easier for Venues and Planners
Venues love well-organised transport. When everyone arrives together:
Ceremonies start on time
There’s less congestion at entrances and car parks
There’s no need for staff to juggle taxis or give directions
For planners, one well-coordinated transport plan is far easier to manage than dozens of self-driving guests.

Why Couples Choose Vintage Views & Kiwi Coaches
A Grand Entrance You’ll Never Forget
Imagine this: your guests are gathered outside the ceremony venue when an immaculate, candy-red double-decker bus rolls up. The bridal party step out, your photographer snaps away, people cheer and phones come out. That first impression sets the tone for the rest of the day.
A vintage double-decker is instantly photogenic. It looks incredible in:
Arrival shots
Group photos outside the venue
Creative images with the wedding party on board
It’s not just transport – it’s a prop, a backdrop and a character in the story of your day.
Seamless Movement Between Venues
Many Auckland weddings involve at least three locations:
Getting guests from hotel or home to the ceremony
Moving everyone from the ceremony to a photo location
Transferring all guests to the reception venue
Co-ordinating this with private cars is a recipe for delays and headaches. With Vintage Views and Kiwi Coaches:
Everyone travels together on one or two vehicles
You control exactly when people arrive and leave
You can build photo stops into the route
Your MC or planner only has one transport plan to manage
Photo Opportunities Along the Way
The journey itself becomes part of the experience. On a Vintage Views wedding bus you can:
Stop at scenic viewpoints (Mission Bay, Devonport, the Harbour Bridge approaches, Parnell, Ponsonby and more)
Capture fun, candid photos of family and friends on the upper deck
Use the bus as a backdrop at the reception entrance or in a nearby space
Guests love the novelty of a vintage double-decker. It creates natural laughter and interaction – which makes your photos even better.
Flexible for Small & Large Weddings
Whether you’re having a small, intimate city ceremony or a large reception at a winery, the Vintage Views + Kiwi Coaches combination can scale with you.
Small weddings: use the double-decker as your main guest bus
Medium weddings: Routemaster for bridal party + key guests, coach for everyone else
Big weddings: multiple Kiwi Coaches for guests, plus Vintage Views for the bridal party and photos
You can also layer in late-night return shuttles so nobody needs to drive home after a few drinks.
A Perfect Match for Vintage, Classic or Urban Themes
If your wedding styling leans vintage, retro, urban, city chic or classic, this bus is a dream. The polished red exterior, heritage detailing and character-filled interior pair beautifully with:
Classic and vintage dresses
Black-tie and formalwear
Industrial and urban venues
City skylines and waterfront views
Even if your theme isn’t strictly vintage, the bus adds a warm layer of character and nostalgia.
Example Wedding Transport Scenarios
To help visualise how this works, here are some popular ways couples use Vintage Views and Kiwi Coaches for wedding transport in Auckland.
City Ceremony, Scenic Photos, Winery Reception
Guests are picked up from central city hotels by Kiwi Coaches
Everyone arrives at the ceremony venue together, stress-free
After the ceremony, the bridal party and close family board the Vintage Views bus
The route includes a stop at a waterfront lookout or city viewpoint for photos
The bus then delivers the bridal party and VIPs to a Kumeu, Riverhead or Clevedon reception venue
Guests travel in comfort on the coach and arrive at the reception on time
Result: Your day flows smoothly, the couple get incredible photos and nobody has to fight Friday traffic on the motorway.
Large Guest List with Multiple Pick-Ups
One coach collects guests from North Shore suburbs
Another coach collects guests from South or East Auckland
Vintage Views is reserved for the bridal party, immediate family and VIPs
Everyone meets at the ceremony on time
After the ceremony, all vehicles follow a coordinated route to the reception
Late at night, one or two Kiwi Coaches return guests to central drop-off points
Result: You move a large group safely and efficiently without confusion, lost guests or parking nightmares.
All-in-One Vintage Celebration
For some weddings, the Vintage Views bus is the star:
The bus picks up guests from a central city location
Everyone travels together to a charming church, park or urban venue
After the ceremony, the bus becomes the backdrop for group photos
Guests board again for a short “city tour” to the reception, taking in waterfront or harbour views
The bus is parked near the reception for photos and atmosphere
You get maximum use out of your vintage vehicle and guests talk about it for years.
Destination-Style Wedding Just Outside Auckland
Plenty of couples choose venues slightly out of town:
Kumeu and West Auckland vineyards
Clevedon, Whitford or Hunua venues
Country estates and heritage lodges
Vintage Views and Kiwi Coaches can work together to:
Collect guests from city hotels or the airport
Transport everyone safely to your countryside venue
Provide a beautiful entrance for the bridal party
Return guests to the city or central drop-off points at the end of the night
Practical Planning Tips for Wedding Transport in Auckland
Visit Your Venue (or Ask for Bus Access Info)
Before finalising your transport plan, check:
Bus/coach access – can large vehicles get in and out easily?
Drop-off points – where will guests safely board and disembark?
Parking or waiting areas – is there room for buses to wait between movements?
Most Auckland venues are used to working with coaches and will have guidance ready.
Plan Pick-Up Points and Times Carefully
Think about:
Where your guests are staying (hotel clusters, key suburbs)
Whether it’s better to have one central pick-up or multiple stops
How long boarding actually takes for a full bus
Build in a little buffer time. It’s better for the bus to arrive early than for the ceremony to start late.
Allow for Auckland Traffic
Auckland traffic can be unpredictable, especially around:
Motorways during peak times
City centre events and roadworks
Harbour bridge bottlenecks
When planning wedding coach hire in Auckland, always:
Avoid tight, back-to-back timings
Allow for a little extra travel time between locations
Listen to your transport provider’s advice on routing and scheduling
Think About Comfort and Accessibility
Talk to Vintage Views and Kiwi Coaches about:
Older guests or those with reduced mobility
Children requiring car seats or special care
How long guests will be on each leg of the journey
Vintage Views can prioritise the lower deck for those who find stairs harder, while Kiwi Coaches can recommend suitable vehicles and layouts for your group.
Don’t Forget the End of the Night
A beautiful arrival is only half the story – getting everyone home safely is just as important.
Consider:
A scheduled late-night shuttle back to the city or key suburbs
A sign-off time (e.g. “last bus leaves at 11:30 pm”)
An MC announcement and clear signage at the end of the reception
Guests will thank you the next day when they realise they didn’t have to think about taxis at all.
Making the Most of the Vintage Experience
The real magic of booking Vintage Views is what you do with the experience.
Build It Into Your Photos
Use the bus as your “something red” in photos
Get a dramatic shot of the couple stepping off the bus
Gather everyone for a big group shot in front of it
Take a quiet moment on the upper deck for a few intimate portraits
Talk to your photographer ahead of time so they can plan angles and locations that feature the bus at its best.
Personalise the Bus
You can make the bus truly yours with:
Ribbons and florals in your wedding colours
Custom signage with your names, initials or wedding hashtag
Small details like custom route blinds, chalkboards or welcome signs
These details photograph beautifully and give your guests that “wow, they really thought of everything” feeling.
Enhance the Onboard Experience
Some fun ideas:
Curate a special onboard playlist for each leg of the journey
Place little welcome notes or treats on seats
Have your MC or a friend give a light-hearted “tour” commentary of the city
Provide a guestbook on the bus for people to sign as they travel
These simple touches turn a normal ride into a story your guests will retell.
Positioning Vintage Views & Kiwi Coaches as Your Wedding Transport Partners
When couples search online for “wedding transport Auckland”, “wedding bus hire Auckland”, or “vintage wedding bus in Auckland”, they’re often overwhelmed with generic options: limos, random vans, or aggregator websites that don’t actually own vehicles.
Vintage Views and Kiwi Coaches stand out because:
They are real, local operators with actual vehicles and teams
You speak directly to the people who’ll handle your day – not a middleman
There is a genuine, long-term investment in their fleet, their service and reputation
They understand Auckland’s venues, roads and wedding rhythms
You’re able to combine the character of a vintage double-decker with the scale and reliability of a major coach operator, which is a rare and powerful combination.
Bringing It All Together
If you’re planning a wedding in or around Auckland and you want transport that is:
Stylish and unforgettable
Practical and reliable
Comfortable and safe for all your guests
Uniquely “you” and full of personality
…then the partnership of Vintage Views and Kiwi Coaches is hard to beat.
You can have:
A classic red London double-decker bus as the star of your wedding day
Modern coaches quietly and efficiently moving your guests
A carefully planned schedule that keeps everything running smoothly
Photo moments, stories and memories that go far beyond “we got a ride”
Your wedding transport doesn’t have to be an afterthought. It can be one of the most fun, distinctive and memorable parts of your day – a thread that connects every chapter, from the first arrival right through to the last ride home.
When you’re ready, reach out to Vintage Views to talk about vintage wedding bus hire in Auckland, and to Kiwi Coaches to plan your wider wedding coach and guest shuttle transport. Secure your date early, share your vision, and let them help you turn getting from A to B into one of the highlights of your whole wedding story.

Explore Auckland’s Best Attractions, Landmarks, and Hidden Gems (and See Them in Style with Vintage Views)
Few cities blend ocean horizons, volcanic skylines, and cultural energy quite like Auckland, New Zealand. The “City of Sails” is at once cosmopolitan and coastal — where cafés meet harbours, and leafy parks sit beside glass-tower skylines. Whether you’re here for a weekend getaway, a cruise stopover, or a staycation, Auckland’s compact central area and nearby suburbs are bursting with things to do.
This ultra-comprehensive guide breaks down the top experiences across Auckland CBD and its surrounding areas, including free and paid attractions, local favourites, and scenic gems. You’ll also find how to connect it all through one of Auckland’s most unique experiences — the Vintage Views double-decker bus tour — which offers the perfect panoramic orientation of the city before you dive deeper into each area.
🚍 Start with Perspective: The Vintage Views Double-Decker Experience
Before exploring Auckland’s streets on foot, start by seeing it from above — literally. Vintage Views operates a lovingly restored 1960s London Routemaster bus, the only one of its kind in New Zealand.
The Double Decker Discovery tour departs from the CBD (Customs & Queen St corner), travelling through the city’s most scenic neighbourhoods:
Parnell, Auckland’s historic village suburb
Mission Bay, the city’s seaside playground
Ponsonby, vibrant, bohemian, and lined with cafés
Across the Harbour Bridge, for a skyline view that captures the City of Sails in all its glory
It’s an ideal first-day activity: just 90 minutes long, camera-ready, and full of photo stops.
👉 Tip: Book the 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. ride to pair it with lunch at one of the waterfront restaurants below, or make it the start of a day exploring everything else on this list.

New Zealand Cruise Season 2026–27: What the Auckland Cruise Calendar Means for You
** Note this data is preliminary and not fully published for 2026/27, dates and itineraries can change as season approaches, for most up to date information visit the Port websites.
If you’re planning a New Zealand cruise in the 2026–27 season, the good news is simple: despite a lot of noise about downturns and ship re-deployments, the cruise calendar for Aotearoa is still busy, diverse, and packed with opportunity – especially around Auckland.
Vintage Views has been mapping the latest schedules, and your current working calendar for 2026–27 shows:
441+ New Zealand port calls between May 2026 and June 2027
Around 59 Auckland ship-days, making the City of Sails a core hub
Heavy activity in Tauranga (≈61 calls) and Dunedin (≈61 calls)
Strong volumes through Christchurch/Lyttelton (~56), Wellington (~39), Napier (~37), Bay of Islands (~36), Picton (~22), plus scenic cruising days in Fiordland (~47)
In other words: even in a tougher environment, New Zealand remains a premium cruise destination, and Auckland is still one of the region’s “must-see” ports.
For Vintage Views – and for cruise guests looking for something special to do ashore – this matters. It means there’s still plenty of traffic, but a growing emphasis on quality excursions, authentic experiences and clever use of your limited time in port.
1. The big picture: cruise in New Zealand is changing – not disappearing
Let’s start with the macro view.
A new joint assessment by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and the New Zealand Cruise Association found that cruise tourism generated about NZ$1.37 billion in total economic output in 2023–24, supporting around 9,700 jobs and NZ$425.9 million in wages across the country. Cruise Lines International Association+1
At the same time, forecasts for 2025–26 onwards show a sharp pull-back:
The New Zealand Cruise Association is warning of around 40% fewer port calls and cruise guests compared with the record 2023–24 season. Seatrade Cruise News+1
Some reports suggest certain lines could cut New Zealand calls by up to 70% in 2026–27, as rising regulatory and biosecurity costs make deployments more complex. Cruise Passenger
So we sit in a paradox:
Globally, cruise is booming.
In New Zealand, the sector is at a “critical juncture” with bookings down, but the destination is still highly desirable. travelBulletin
For visitors, that shift actually brings benefits: less crowding, more available capacity on quality tours, and greater attention on the experiences that do operate.
2. What your 2026–27 calendar tells us about cruising around New Zealand
Looking at your draft 2026–27 cruise calendar, several trends jump out.
2.1 The “spine” of the season: Auckland, Tauranga, Dunedin
Across the season (from Crown Princess in Tauranga on 5 May 2026 through to Grand Princess at Bay of Islands on 22 June 2027), there’s a clear backbone of calls through:
Auckland – ~59 ship-days
Tauranga / Mount Maunganui – ~61 ship-days
Dunedin – ~61 ship-days
These three ports are the workhorses of your schedule, with repeated visits by major brands such as:
Princess Cruises: Crown Princess, Grand Princess, Royal Princess
Carnival Cruise Line: Carnival Splendor
Holland America Line: Noordam
Norwegian Cruise Line: Norwegian Spirit
Celebrity Cruises: Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Solstice
Viking Cruises: Viking Venus, Viking Orion, Viking Sky
This “triangle” of Auckland – Tauranga – Dunedin is still the classic New Zealand cruise itinerary: city, beaches & volcanoes, and southern heritage.
2.2 The premium & luxury layer
Overlaying the mainstream brands, your 2026–27 calendar also shows a rich layer of premium and luxury ships:
Azamara Pursuit
Seven Seas Explorer & Seven Seas Navigator (Regent Seven Seas)
Crystal Serenity (Crystal Cruises)
Silver Moon (Silversea)
Europa 2 & Amera & Artania (Hapag-Lloyd / Phoenix Reisen)
These ships often have longer port times and higher on-board spend per guest, which is exactly the type of passenger looking for curated small-group experiences rather than generic mass-market bus tours.
For an operator like Vintage Views, that’s gold: Auckland shore excursions in a fully roofed, vintage double-decker (NOT open-top), with a strong storytelling angle, sit squarely in this premium space.
2.3 Shoulder seasons & winter edges
Your calendar also highlights:
Early season calls such as Crown Princess in May 2026
Strong clusters from October through March (classic peak season) Global Journeys
Late-season/winter curiosities like Grand Princess at Kaiteriteri in June 2027
This mirrors broader patterns: the New Zealand cruise season typically runs October–April, with shoulder months offering softer prices and fewer crowds. Global Journeys
As winter cruising grows – particularly with Carnival’s Carnival Adventure home-porting in Auckland from May–July 2027 The Beehive+1 – we can expect more experimentation with shoulder and winter itineraries. Vintage Views is perfectly placed to service year-round Auckland city & harbour touring, regardless of season.
3. Auckland’s role: still the beating heart of cruise in New Zealand
Even amid a national slowdown, Auckland remains a powerhouse:
For the 2024–25 summer, Ports of Auckland expected around 108 ships and 230,000 passengers between October and April alone. Poal
Government statements suggest New Zealand is preparing to welcome ~177,000 cruise visitors across nearly 40 ships in the 2025–26 season, as the sector rebuilds. The Beehive
Your 2026–27 schedule continues that pattern: frequent Auckland calls across the season, including days where multiple ships share the harbour – for example, combinations of Royal Princess, Celebrity Edge, Seven Seas Navigator, Artania, Norwegian Spirit and more on closely-stacked dates.
For passengers, this means:
High competition between tours on peak multi-ship days
Huge value in pre-booking small-group or specialist experiences
A chance to choose authentic, locally owned tours instead of only ship-run megabuses
For Vintage Views, it reinforces our strategy:
Be the go-to Auckland shore excursion for guests who want a relaxed, story-rich city and harbour experience in a classic double-decker, not the standard “tick-the-box” bus run.
4. The wider context: a sector under pressure, with strong upside for the right products
Industry commentary is clear:
The New Zealand Cruise Association and multiple news outlets have highlighted a ~40% decline in port bookings forecast for the 2025–26 season compared with the 2023–24 peak, driven by high regulatory and biosecurity costs, uncertainty and complex rules. RNZ+2Cruise Critic+2
Some analyses warn that if the decline continues, up to 10,000 jobs across tourism, hospitality, transport and port operations could be at risk. Cruise Passenger+1
But that doesn’t mean the sky is falling. Instead, it means:
Cruise lines that remain are more selective about itineraries and ports.
There is a “flight to quality” – towards ports and operators that deliver smooth operations, clear compliance, and strong guest reviews. Cruise Passenger
Ports like Auckland, with active investment and a clear government focus (see the Carnival Adventure home-port announcement), are signalling they want cruise to succeed long-term. The Beehive+1
For Vintage Views – and for cruise guests choosing how to spend a precious day ashore – this translates to one big theme:
Fewer, but better, cruise experiences.
If you’re going to cruise all the way to New Zealand, the days of “just wandering off the ship and hoping for the best” are over. You want intentional, high-quality shore time.
5. Designing your day in port: what the 2026–27 calendar implies for cruise guests
5.1 Typical time windows
Your calendar clearly shows the classic New Zealand pattern:
Arrivals: often between 06:00 and 09:00
Departures: typically between 16:00 and 20:00
Some special cases with late-evening departures or overnights (e.g. longer Crystal, Artania or Europa 2 calls)
That gives most guests:
6–10 practical hours ashore in Auckland
Enough time for:
A 3–4 hour city & harbour tour, plus
Free time for shopping, waterfront dining, or a quick museum visit
From a planning point of view, this is exactly why we’ve shaped Vintage Views tours around half-day blocks – so you don’t have to choose between “do a tour” or “see the waterfront”. You can do both.
5.2 Port clusters: Tauranga, Bay of Islands, Wellington, Fiordland
Your 2026–27 calendar shows strong repeat calls through:
Bay of Islands – classic tender port for scenic and cultural excursions
Tauranga – gateway to Mount Maunganui, Rotorua & geothermal highlights
Wellington & Napier – city, art deco and wine country options
Fiordland – officially a “cruise-through” scenic day rather than a land port, but a marquee highlight of almost every New Zealand itinerary
For many passengers, Auckland is the most flexible DIY port – with easy city access directly from the ship, English-speaking local operators, and short travel times to major viewpoints, heritage sites and harbour vistas. That makes it the ideal place to book independently with a local operator like Vintage Views.
6. Why Auckland shore excursions with Vintage Views make sense in 2026–27
When you look at the 2026–27 cruise calendar and the wider industry trends, a few reasons to choose Vintage Views crystallise:
6.1 A classic, fully roofed double-decker (NOT open-top)
Our vehicle is a lovingly restored 1960s London Routemaster double-decker, fully enclosed (we are not open-top – important in Auckland’s changeable weather).
That means:
All-weather comfort in sun, wind or showers
Elevated views as we cross the Harbour Bridge or roll along Tamaki Drive
A genuine vintage experience that still feels premium and safe – perfect for cruise guests of all ages
6.2 Tailored runs that match the cruise calendar
By looking at your schedule – from Crown Princess, Grand Princess and Royal Princess, through to Celebrity Edge, Viking Venus, Silver Moon, Seven Seas Explorer, Azamara Pursuit, Crystal Serenity, Europa 2, Amera and Artania – we can:
Time departures to match key arrival windows into Auckland
Offer morning and early-afternoon departures, giving guests a buffer before all-aboard
Coordinate with port agents so our pick-up is walking distance from the cruise terminal (typically around Queens Wharf / Princes Wharf / lower Queen Street)
Our existing products – such as the Double Decker Discovery Tour and our Great British Pub Crawl – already use a CBD pick-up near Customs Street & Queen Street. For cruise passengers, we adapt these into cruise-specific time slots and itineraries, with guaranteed back-to-ship margins.
6.3 Local stories, not just photo stops
New Zealand cruise commentators often highlight that what sets us apart globally is unspoilt scenery and strong local narratives. Cruise Critic+1
On a Vintage Views tour you can expect:
Commentary from local guides and drivers who actually live here, not a generic pre-recorded loop
Stories about Auckland’s waterfront, volcanic cones, neighbourhoods like Parnell & Ponsonby, the Harbour Bridge and North Shore, and the lived reality of a harbour city shaped by both Māori and European history
Insight into Auckland as a cruise port today – the growth years, the COVID pause, the recovery, the regulatory battles, and where the industry is heading next
For many cruise guests, that “insider view” is exactly what makes a shore day memorable.
7. Key cruise trends to watch for 2026–27 (and how they affect your day ashore)
7.1 Fewer big ships, more premium demand
Industry analysis shows that while the total number of port calls is dropping, premium and luxury brands are holding, or even growing, their presence, as they can better absorb higher operating costs and attract higher-spend guests. Cruise Passenger+1
For you, as a cruise passenger, that means:
Higher likelihood that you’re on a ship where quality shore excursions matter
More reason to look at small-group, boutique tours rather than just buying the first bus on the ship’s excursion list
7.2 Homeporting & new itineraries
The announcement that Carnival Adventure will home-port in Auckland during winter 2027 is a powerful signal that cruise lines still see New Zealand – and Auckland in particular – as strategically important. The Beehive+1
Your 2026–27 calendar is part of that story: a bridge between the boom years and a quieter phase where smart, well-run experiences are likely to stand out and be retained in future deployment decisions.
7.3 Government & industry collaboration
The New Zealand Government and cruise stakeholders have begun working more closely on pricing, infrastructure and compliance (including in-water biofouling solutions and terminal improvements) to stabilise the sector. Cruise Lines International Association+2Cruise News+2
That should, over time, reduce the “choppiness” in cruise scheduling and support more predictable itineraries – good news for anyone booking New Zealand cruises in 2026–27 and beyond.
8. How to use this information if you’re planning a cruise
If you’ve already booked, or are considering booking, a New Zealand cruise in the 2026–27 season, here’s how to make the most of it:
Check your exact itinerary against the calendar
Note which days you’re in Auckland, Tauranga, Bay of Islands, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
Look at arrival/departure times – if you have 6+ hours in Auckland, you have time for a proper guided tour plus free time.
Plan Auckland as your “independent shore day”
Ports like Fiordland or Bay of Islands often work best through ship-organized tours due to tendering and distance.
Auckland, by contrast, is easy to explore with a trusted independent operator – especially one that operates from the CBD and knows the cruise schedule.
Book early for peak days
Your calendar shows multiple high-concentration days (e.g. double or triple-ship days in January–March 2027).
On those days, ships will compete for buses and popular attractions – booking your Vintage Views tour in advance guarantees a seat and a calmer day.
Look beyond “box-ticking”
Because New Zealand is seeing fewer ships overall, each visitor means more to local operators.
This is the time to look for tours that are local, Kiwi-owned, and genuinely invested in your experience – not just handling overflow from a global chain.
9. Vintage Views: your Auckland shore-excursion partner for 2026–27
Vintage Views is built for exactly this moment in New Zealand cruising:
A Kiwi-owned, family-run company with a passion for classic vehicles and storytelling
A fully roofed vintage double-decker (NOT open-top) – comfortable, character-filled and camera-ready
Tours designed to work with the Auckland 2026–27 cruise calendar – whether you’re arriving on Crown Princess, Celebrity Edge, Royal Princess, Viking, Silver Moon, Crystal Serenity, Azamara, Seven Seas Explorer or another line
On a typical Vintage Views cruise-day experience, you might:
Step off your ship at Queens Wharf or Princes Wharf
Join us a short walk away at the corner of Customs and Queen Street
Settle into the top deck for panoramic views as we:
Loop through Parnell, the Domain and Ponsonby
Follow the waterfront around Mission Bay and Tamaki Drive
Cross the Auckland Harbour Bridge for North Shore views
Hear the real stories of how Auckland works – transport, harbour history, cruise, and daily life – while still being back at the terminal well before all-aboard
10. Ready to plan your Auckland cruise day?
The 2026–27 cruise calendar you’ve assembled confirms what we already feel on the ground in Auckland:
New Zealand cruising is evolving, not ending
The City of Sails remains a central, high-value port for almost every itinerary
There is a clear move towards quality over quantity, with premium ships and savvy guests looking for something more than a standard bus transfer
If you’re joining one of these ships in 2026–27, now is the perfect time to:
Lock in your Auckland shore excursion with a locally owned operator
Choose a tour that matches your interests and your schedule
Experience Auckland from the best seat in town – the top deck of a classic, fully roofed double-decker, with a Kiwi crew who live and breathe this harbour city
Vintage Views would love to be part of your cruise story.

From Tyres to Tasting Menus: The Michelin Guide Lands in Aotearoa — A Culinary Milestone for New Zealand
A new star rises over New Zealand
“Kia ora Benjamin” – greetings from a moment in New Zealand’s tourism and hospitality history that will be remembered. The Michelin Guide has officially announced its arrival in New Zealand — the first time the Guide will operate in Oceania, with dedicated coverage of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown. 1News+2delicious.com.au+2
In short: what began as a tyre-company promotional booklet a century ago has matured into the world’s premier restaurant-rating benchmark. And now, Aotearoa is joining the club. For travellers, food lovers, chefs and tourism operators alike, this puts New Zealand’s culinary scene squarely on the global map.
A quick tour of the Michelin story
To appreciate what this means, let’s rewind the clock.
Origins in rubber, roads and restaurants
It may surprise you that the Michelin Guide began in 1900 not as a food book, but as a travel companion for motorists. The tyre-making brothers Édouard Michelin and André Michelin published the first “Guide Michelin” in France to encourage car travel (and thus tyre wear). Wikipedia+2MICHELIN Guide+2
By the 1920s the restaurant listings took centre stage. In 1926 the Guide began awarding stars for fine dining. MICHELIN Guide+1 In 1931 the hierarchy of one, two and three stars was introduced, with explicit criteria published in 1936. Wikipedia+1
The stars came to mean:
⭐ One star = “high-quality cooking, worth a stop”
⭐⭐ Two stars = “excellent cooking, worth a detour”
⭐⭐⭐ Three stars = “exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey” Wikipedia+1
Over decades the Guide expanded internationally, establishing itself as both an honour and a driver of tourism, prestige and innovation in the food world. escoffier.edu+1
The Michelin methodology and significance
Inspectors remain (famously) anonymous. They evaluate restaurants based on what the Guide describes as five core criteria: quality of ingredients, mastery of techniques, harmony of flavours, personality of the cuisine and consistency over time and across the menu. delicious.com.au+1
To be listed is an achievement; to receive a star is transformative. Many chefs describe it as a career-defining moment. And for destinations, inclusion can shift perceptions from “nice scenery and local food” to “world-class culinary capital”.
A legacy of change and challenge
Over its lifespan, the Guide has adapted. It has added distinctions such as the “Bib Gourmand” (good quality, moderate price) and “Green Star” (sustainability) in recent years. Wikipedia+1
It has also faced criticism: for favouring expensive, formal fine dining; for the intense pressure it places on restaurants; and for cultural variation in how dining is defined across the world. Wikipedia
Nonetheless, the launch of a new country edition remains a major event — both for the culinary scene and for tourism planners.
Why New Zealand is the next frontier
So why has Michelin chosen New Zealand now? And why does the country eagerly embrace this moment?
A distinct culinary identity
From our wild-harvested pāua and Bluff oysters, to lamb raised in the high country and the blending of Māori, Pacific and western food traditions, New Zealand’s gastronomy has matured. The inspectors cited our “distinctive flavour” — local culture, indigenous heritage and produce all playing a role. 1News+1
Tourism, dining and brand alignment
According to Tourism New Zealand, 87 % of potential travellers say “trying local cuisine” ranks as their prime interest. The arrival of the Michelin Guide feeds directly into this desire for meaningful food-led travel. (From your earlier e-flash: “For those actively considering New Zealand for their next holiday, ‘trying local cuisine’ ranks as the number one interest.”)
Government investment underlines the importance: the Guide’s expansion here is backed by a NZ$6.3 million partnership. NZ Herald+1
Four cities, one edition
The inaugural New Zealand edition will focus on four strategic locations: Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown. Multiple city-regions, each with strong food and tourism credentials, but one national campaign. delicious.com.au
Kiwi chefs, global journeys & local ambition
Let’s zoom in to the people behind the food. New Zealand has no Michelin-starred restaurants yet (given the Guide has not published a New Zealand ranking before). But Kiwi chefs with international pedigrees already carry the experience, ambition and signature style that align with Michelin values.
Peter Gordon – The fusion pioneer
Born in Whanganui and of Ngāti Kahungunu and Ngāi Tahu descent, Peter Gordon spent two decades in London and beyond, blending Eastern and Western flavours. He is widely regarded as the “father of fusion cuisine” in this country. Wikipedia+1
Though he did not (so far) hold Michelin stars himself, his legacy in raising NZ’s food profile abroad laid the groundwork for what’s coming now.
Josh Emett – Fine dining with provenance
Josh Emett returned to New Zealand with experience of working internationally with Gordon Ramsay and elsewhere, and now operates Onslow in Auckland and The Oyster Inn on Waiheke. Wikipedia+1
His work demonstrates the type of skill-set Michelin inspectors will recognise: high-end technique, produce focus, consistency and personality.
Monique Fiso – Indigenous flavours, international training
Of Māori and Samoan descent, Monique Fiso trained in Michelin-star kitchens abroad before returning home to Wellington, bringing a distinctive ingredient-led, place-rooted approach. New Zealand
Her story is emblematic of the direction NZ cuisine is heading.
Matt Lambert – Kiwi chef with Michelin-star experience overseas
The New Zealander Matt Lambert held a Michelin star in New York (2013-2020) and now returns to manage high-end dining in NZ contexts. Ōra King
His background brings direct experience of what Michelin recognition means — both the thrill and the pressure.
What this means for Auckland & for Vintage Views
At Vintage Views we’re all about experience: seeing, hearing, tasting, connecting. The Michelin arrival gives our tours an added dimension — beyond sightseeing to food-insight.
For our Auckland guests
Your day begins aboard our vintage-style double-decker bus (remember: our bus is NOT open top) as we traverse Auckland’s harbour-edge, volcanoes and vibrant neighbourhoods.
As evening falls, you may slip into a restaurant that is part of the Michelin inspection process — or at least one of the top kitchens in town vying for that honour.
The narrative changes: you are not just eating dinner, you are participating in a moment of cultural elevation. Michelin’s inspectors are dining anonymously in our city right now. 1News
For food-curious travellers
This is an inflection point. For years travellers have come to New Zealand for scenery, spirit and seafood; now they can come for world-class gastronomy too.
Vintage Views can serve as your prelude (touring the city, getting oriented) or your celebration (dinner reservation secured, memory made).
Why our story matters
Vintage Views is part of the larger narrative: in a country built on land and sea, heritage and innovation, transport and hospitality, we bring people together. Michelin arriving means more than stars: it means opportunity for local producers, chefs, tourism operators — and our guests.
Setting the table for what’s next
Let’s look ahead. What might the future hold, and how can you as a visitor (or us as an operator) make the most of this moment?
The timeline to watch
Inspectors have already been operating in New Zealand, under the radar. 1News+1
The Guide’s first New Zealand selection is expected mid-2026. NZ Herald
No quota approach: stars are not guaranteed; the Guide emphasises “no quota, new game every year”. NZ Herald
How to make the moment count
For travellers: build your dining list now, book early, combine sightseeing (e.g., a Vintage Views tour) with culinary discovery.
For our Vintage Views audience: we can embed food narratives into our tours — highlighting trend-setting restaurants, chef stories, local producers — positioning Auckland as a destination for “sight + taste”.
For hospitality partners: the Michelin presence elevates the entire ecosystem — local suppliers, wine makers, accommodation, and yes, transport/tour operators like us.
Why this is meaningful beyond the plate
Brand elevation: New Zealand is no longer just “stunning landscapes” but “stunning cuisine in stunning landscapes”.
Year-round destination: Food experiences help smooth seasonality, attract off-peak visitors.
Cultural recognition: Indigenous food traditions, local produce, regional variation all gain global audience.
Tourism multiplier: Increased spending, longer stays, more premium travellers — positive for the whole value chain.
A call to the curious traveller
If you’re planning your next New Zealand trip and you love the idea of blending landscape, heritage, and world-class cuisine — now is the moment.
Start with an afternoon onboard Vintage Views’ Routemaster: wild views of Auckland’s harbour, layered with stories of colonial forts, volcanic cones, and city-by-sea. Then, let your evening dining reservation take you into the realm where Michelin inspectors roam. Each dish becomes part of a larger story — of place, of people, of purpose.
Let’s toast to this: the arrival of the Michelin Guide in New Zealand is a milestone for our chefs, our tourism industry, our sense of identity — and for every guest who savours more than just a meal, but an experience. At Vintage Views we’re proud to play our part in the story.
Ready to join the journey?
• Visit our tour-page at VintageViews.co.nz/tours for our featured routes in Auckland — perfect companions to a fine-dining evening.
• Keep an eye on our blog and social channels as we profile the restaurants, chefs and flavours catching Michelin’s eye.
• Whether you’re local or international, bring your appetite for adventure — on the roads, on the plates, and in the stories.
The table is set. The lights are dimming. The guards have left the dining room. And somewhere in Auckland, an anonymous inspector is pausing at a glass of New Zealand pinot, taking note.
Will your next dish be the one that helps the Guide write the next chapter?

The Great British Pub Crawl Kicks Off in Style!
A perfect blend of heritage, hops, and hearty laughs aboard Auckland’s iconic Routemaster bus
Last Sunday marked the debut of The Great British Pub Crawl, and what a launch it was! Aboard our beautifully restored 1960s London Routemaster “Dorothy,” we set off on an unforgettable afternoon of laughter, history, local flavour, and good old British hospitality.
From the moment guests climbed aboard, the mood was electric — a friendly crowd ready to explore Auckland’s best pubs in true vintage style. The sun was shining, the tunes were playing, and as we rolled across the Harbour Bridge, there was that unmistakable mix of excitement and nostalgia that only a classic London bus can bring.
Stop One: The Northcote Tavern — A Slice of Old-World Charm
Our first stop was the Northcote Tavern, one of Auckland’s oldest and most beloved watering holes. With its heritage feel, spacious garden bar, and sweeping views of the harbour, it was the perfect place to begin. Guests enjoyed their first drink of the day — house beer or wine — while soaking in the atmosphere and chatting with fellow travellers.
A round of hearty laughs and friendly introductions later, our group was well and truly bonded — helped, of course, by the Tavern’s excellent range of local ales and welcoming staff. The Northcote was everything we wanted our first stop to be: relaxed, social, and full of character.
Stop Two: Galbraith’s Alehouse — The Heart of Auckland Brewing
Back over the bridge, we made our way to Galbraith’s Alehouse, the beating heart of Auckland’s craft beer scene. Housed in a former library, this legendary brewpub is where English pub tradition meets Kiwi creativity.
Guests were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the brewery and enjoyed another round paired with delicious nibbles. From crisp lagers to malty bitters, Galbraith’s showcased the best of Auckland’s brewing heritage — and our guests loved every sip. The conversation flowed as smoothly as the beer, and the Routemaster outside drew smiles from everyone who passed by.
Stop Three: The Brit — Modern Vibes in the Heart of the City
Our final stop was The Brit, just steps from the waterfront and the perfect spot to wrap up the afternoon. Here, our group gathered for a shared pub meal — hearty, flavourful, and beautifully presented — alongside the third included drink of the day.
With plates cleared and glasses raised, the conversation turned to the day’s highlights: the vintage bus ride, the friendly crowd, the incredible venues, and of course, the amazing local beer. There was laughter, toasts, and even a few plans made to come back for round two.
A Day to Remember — And the Start of Something Special
As the sun began to set and “Dorothy” purred back to base, everyone agreed on one thing — The Great British Pub Crawl is something special. It’s not just a tour; it’s an experience that blends history, heritage, great company, and world-class local beer.
We couldn’t have asked for a better first outing: a great crowd, awesome food and drink, and an atmosphere that captured the spirit of both Britain and New Zealand. Thank you to everyone who joined us — you helped make the first Great British Pub Crawl unforgettable.

Discover Why Vintage Views Is Auckland’s Best Cruise-Ship Tour
Hop On Hop Off… Without the Off.
Welcome to your ultimate guide to Vintage Views — proudly celebrated by our guests as “the best cruise-ship tour in Auckland”, and it’s easy to see why. If you’re arriving into Auckland by ship, pressed for time, and seeking a scenic, effortless way to experience the city, this is the tour you’ve been waiting for.
Why guests call it the best
1. Port-friendly location
Your cruise berth at Princes Wharf or Queens Wharf is just minutes away from our departure stop — a comfortable 2-3 minute walk from your gangway. Cruise passengers arriving for limited hours in port tell us this part alone makes all the difference.
2. Seamless sightseeing — no hopping off required
Thanks to our motto “Hop On Hop Off… Without the Off” we’ve done things differently. Instead of repeatedly stopping and re-boarding (which eats time and energy), you board once and enjoy one continuous loop of Auckland’s highlights in roughly 90 minutes.
That means you don’t waste precious port time juggling logistics. You just sit back, take in the views, and we deliver back to the heart of the city with time to spare.
3. A real slice of vintage charm aboard “Dorothy”
Step aboard our beautifully restored 1964 London Routemaster double-decker bus (“Dorothy”) — a rare heritage vehicle that adds character and nostalgia to your sightseeing. Vintage Views+1 With polished wood, brass fittings, and vantage seats up top, it’s an experience in itself.
4. Stellar reviews from delighted visitors
Our TripAdvisor reviews are full of praise:
“Absolutely the highlight of our Auckland stopover! So easy from the cruise terminal and the views were stunning.”
“The vintage bus is beautiful and the commentary made it feel like a story of Auckland, not just a tour.” Tripadvisor
When you get feedback like that, you know you’re doing something right.
5. Designed for the time-pressed traveller
For guests with only a few hours on shore, every minute counts. Our 90-minute loop keeps things tight and efficient. By delivering major landmarks, scenic spots, and a local’s commentary, we ensure you leave with more than just a hurried snapshot of Auckland.
What you’ll see — highlights on our loop
From the moment you board, we set out to encapsulate Auckland in one journey. Here are the key sights and experiences included:
Sky Tower – Auckland’s iconic skyline marker.
Viaduct Harbour & Waterfront – the city’s dining and leisure heart by the sea.
Auckland Domain & Auckland War Memorial Museum – heritage, culture and green space. Vintage Views
Parnell Village – boutique charm, historic streets and leafy calm.
Auckland Harbour Bridge & North Shore views – spectacular moments valued by photographers. Vintage Views
And all of this without you needing to figure out multiple stops, transfers or route maps. We bring the route to you.
A fresh take on “Hop-On Hop-Off”
Most hop-on hop-off tours are built for cities where you’ll disembark often, wander, then re-board. But for cruise-shore time, that can feel clunky and inefficient in Auckland.
We embrace a different philosophy: no hopping off. You remain onboard, comfortable, and engaged throughout the loop — and still experience everything the city has to offer.
Here’s how we stack up:
Traditional HOHO tourVintage Views approachMultiple stops & waiting timesOne continuous loop – no stops to dash off and back onAudio commentary / headphonesLive local host with stories, jokes and contextLarger vehicles, generic experienceHeritage bus, small-group feel, every seat great for photosDesigned for unlimited stopsDesigned for maximum sights with minimum fuss
As the website says:
“Traditional hop-on-hop-off tours can be convenient, but Auckland is a city best experienced as one flowing story — not a series of stops.” Vintage Views
Ideal for cruise ship guests
If you’re docked in the city for just 3–5 hours, here’s why this tour is perfect for you:
Departure point near your ship: Corner of Queen Street & Customs Street, just outside the Mövenpick Hotel, short walk from cruise terminals. Vintage Views
Duration fits your schedule: Approximately 90 minutes, leaving you time afterwards to explore, shop or return to your ship without hurry.
Simple logistics: No transfers, no map-hunting, no stress. Just board, relax, and enjoy.
Local commentary + photo opportunities: We offer more than just window-shots — you’ll get local stories, historical context and vantage viewpoints you may not find on big coach tours.
Vintage experience: A heritage bus, a unique ride — memorable for your entire group.
Tips for making the most of your tour
Arrive a few minutes early for your departure time — cruise port schedules can be tight.
Sit on the upper deck, ideally front-right side (ensuring best skyline and harbour panoramas).
Bring your camera/phone — the best views often happen when you’re least expecting them (e.g., crossing the Harbour Bridge).
If the weather surprises you, the bus is enclosed and comfortable (it’s not open-top).
After the loop, you’ll be dropped near the waterfront — consider a quick stroll to the Viaduct for a coffee before your next port activity.
For families, grandparents or multi-generational groups: this is relaxed and comfortable. No rush, no stress.
Book and prepare
Visit vintageviews.co.nz for schedules, pricing and availability.
Tickets start at approximately NZD $49 per adult and $19 for children.
If you’re arriving by ship, booking in advance is wise — seats fill when multiple ships are in port.
Confirm your ship’s arrival/departure time and factor in at least 30 minutes buffer to disembark, walk to the bus stop, and after the tour, return to your ship.
Final word
If you have one short slice of time in Auckland and want more than just a fleeting glance — if you value comfort, tone, stories and panoramic views — then Vintage Views is that rare tour that delivers. It isn’t just “another bus ride”; it’s a curated, scenic, vintage experience tailored to guests who want to see Auckland without the stress.
Board the vintage Routemaster, settle into your seat, enjoy the journey, and let the city unfold before you. All the sights. None of the stops.
Hop On Hop Off… Without the Off: Discover Auckland Aboard a Classic Double-Decker Bus
The Return of Classic Sightseeing in Auckland
For decades, “Hop On Hop Off” tours have been the go-to for exploring major cities — but in Auckland, there’s now a smarter, smoother, and far more charming way to see it all.
Introducing the Double Decker Discovery Tour by Vintage Views — a lovingly restored 1960s London Routemaster that now glides through the streets of Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland).
This is sightseeing reimagined: no transfers, no waiting for the next bus, no confusion about where to hop back on. Just 90 minutes of pure discovery, all from the best seat in town — the open-top deck of an iconic red London bus.
Hop On Hop Off… Without the Off.
That’s our motto. And for many visitors, it’s a revelation.
A New Way to See the City
Auckland isn’t a city that rewards rushing. It’s a place to be seen from above — from the Harbour Bridge, the Sky Tower, and now from the upper deck of Dorothy, our bright red Routemaster.
From the moment you board, the pace slows down, the skyline opens up, and Auckland’s mix of harbours, hills, and heritage comes alive.
The Double Decker Discovery route captures it all:
The shimmering Viaduct Harbour and Wynyard Quarter, alive with restaurants and sailboats
The tree-lined beauty of Auckland Domain, the city’s oldest park
The boutique charm of Parnell Village
The cinematic sweep across the Harbour Bridge, looking back to the skyline
And the street-level hum of the CBD, where old and new Auckland meet
This isn’t just transport — it’s an experience, a story, and a photo opportunity rolled into one unforgettable ride.
Why “Without the Off” Matters
“Hop On Hop Off” tours are designed for flexibility — but that flexibility often comes with frustration.
Cruise passengers and short-stay visitors in Auckland often find themselves:
Waiting for the next bus at every stop
Struggling to find pickup points
Watching the clock to make it back to port
With Vintage Views, the idea is simple: Hop On Once, See It All.
You don’t lose time waiting. You don’t get lost between stops. You simply enjoy a curated sightseeing journey that flows effortlessly through the city’s best views, guided by friendly local hosts and real stories.
For cruise passengers, it’s the perfect shore excursion — an easy 5-minute walk from the Auckland Cruise Terminal, timed to fit comfortably within most port schedules.
Meet Dorothy – A True British Icon
Our bus, “Dorothy”, has a history as rich as the city she now explores.
Built in the 1960s for the streets of London, this Routemaster served Britain’s capital through decades of change before being carefully imported to New Zealand.
Restored over several years by passionate enthusiasts, she now carries a new mission — to showcase Auckland’s beauty while preserving a piece of motoring history.
Every seat on board has a story to tell: polished brass, heritage signage, and that unmistakable London red. Yet, beneath the nostalgia, Dorothy is fitted with modern comforts, safety upgrades, and smooth suspension — ready for 21st-century city touring.
The Experience: Vintage Charm Meets Modern Comfort
The moment you climb aboard, something shifts. The noise of the city fades into the hum of the engine, the wind catches your hair, and Auckland opens out around you.
It’s not just sightseeing — it’s feeling the city.
Our guests often describe it as “like stepping into a movie” or “seeing Auckland for the first time, even if you live here.”
Whether you’re a local rediscovering your home city or a cruise passenger on your first New Zealand adventure, the tour is designed to blend nostalgia, comfort, and panoramic beauty.
What You’ll See
🗼 Sky Tower – the tallest man-made structure in the Southern Hemisphere, and a constant presence on the skyline.
🌉 Auckland Harbour Bridge – enjoy sweeping views of the Waitematā Harbour and North Shore.
🌿 Auckland Domain & Museum – a tranquil green escape filled with native flora and rich history.
🏛️ Parnell Village – cobbled streets, cafés, and boutique shops in one of Auckland’s oldest suburbs.
🌅 Waterfront & Viaduct Harbour – where modern Auckland meets the sea, alive with yachts and dining.
Each sight is introduced with commentary, fun facts, and stories that connect the modern city to its past — from Māori heritage and colonial history to the city’s rise as the cultural heart of New Zealand.

Vintage Views isn’t a franchise or an offshore operator — it’s a family-run Auckland company created with love and community spirit.

Vintage Views Auckland — See the City from the Top Deck of a London Icon
A New Way to Discover Auckland
There’s something truly timeless about seeing Auckland from the open top of a classic London Routemaster. The red paint gleaming in the sun, the sound of the engine echoing under the Harbour Bridge, the sea breeze drifting across the deck — it’s nostalgia, adventure, and pure Kiwi hospitality rolled into one.
Welcome aboard Vintage Views, Auckland’s most unique sightseeing experience. Born from a love of heritage vehicles and local storytelling, this tour brings together the charm of Britain’s most famous bus and the beauty of New Zealand’s largest city.
Whether you’re a cruise passenger stepping ashore for the day, a local rediscovering your own backyard, or a visitor looking for something truly authentic — Vintage Views offers a fresh, elevated perspective (literally!).
The Route: A Journey Through Auckland’s Icons
Your journey begins in the heart of downtown Auckland, just steps from the Cruise Terminal on Queen Street and Customs Street East. From there, the red Routemaster rolls north across the Harbour Bridge, offering sweeping views of the Waitematā Harbour, the Sky Tower, and the Viaduct Basin glistening below.
On the other side, the North Shore greets you with leafy streets and panoramic lookouts. You’ll pass Northcote Point, home to historic pubs like the Northcote Tavern, and enjoy postcard-perfect views back toward the city skyline — a favourite among photographers and locals alike.
Returning across the bridge, the tour loops through Ponsonby, Freemans Bay, and the CBD, showcasing Auckland’s mix of history, architecture, and harbourside charm. Along the way, your friendly host shares stories of the city’s evolution — from Māori heritage to colonial trade routes, maritime history, and modern life in the City of Sails.
Why It’s More Than Just a Bus Ride
Vintage Views isn’t a hop-on hop-off service — it’s a “Hop On, Hop Off… Without the Off” experience. That means you can sit back, relax, and enjoy a complete guided loop without worrying about schedules or stops.
Each tour is fully hosted by local guides who know Auckland inside out — blending fun facts, hidden gems, and a few laughs along the way.
You’ll see:
Auckland Harbour Bridge – the city’s great engineering icon.
Sky Tower – the tallest structure in the Southern Hemisphere.
Viaduct Harbour & Wynyard Quarter – where luxury yachts and great coffee meet.
Ponsonby Road – home to heritage villas, boutique shops, and street art.
Northcote Point Lookout – your picture-perfect skyline view.
And because our tours run in all weather, you can enjoy Auckland’s shifting moods — sunshine, sea mist, or the glow of late afternoon light over the harbour.
The Bus: A Living Piece of London
Meet Dorothy, our lovingly restored 1960s London Routemaster double-decker. She’s not just a vehicle — she’s a piece of history.
Originally built for London Transport, Dorothy served on the streets of the UK capital before making her way to New Zealand, where she’s been restored with care and pride by the Dale family. Every bolt, seat, and panel tells a story — of craftsmanship, culture, and connection.
Her classic red livery and vintage charm make her one of the most photographed vehicles in the country — and the only Routemaster regularly operating public tours in Auckland.
Perfect for Cruise Passengers, Locals & Visitors
Vintage Views operates directly from Auckland’s cruise precinct, making it the easiest sightseeing option for cruise guests short on time but keen on experience.
Cruise Visitors: Depart just a short stroll from your ship.
Locals: Bring visiting friends or family and rediscover your city.
Tour Operators: Ask about our charter options and partner packages.
Each tour runs approximately 90 minutes, with departures throughout the day on weekends and cruise days.
Private Charters & Special Events
Looking for something extra special? The Vintage Views bus is available for private hire — from weddings and photo shoots to corporate events and family celebrations.
Imagine toasting with friends under the Harbour Bridge, hosting a birthday with a view, or arriving at your event in true vintage style. With flexible charter options and onboard hosting, Vintage Views turns any occasion into a memory.
Sustainability Meets Heritage
While the Routemaster hails from the 1960s, Vintage Views operates with modern responsibility. The restoration process focused on preserving heritage materials while improving efficiency and safety standards.
Every kilometre driven celebrates the circular economy — restoring, reusing, and repurposing rather than replacing. The tour promotes low-impact urban tourism, encouraging visitors to explore Auckland in a single loop rather than multiple car trips.
Book Your Seat
Tours operate Saturday and Sunday, with additional departures on cruise ship days.
Seats are limited, so early booking is recommended.

Their mission: to celebrate travel with character — bringing heritage vehicles, local storytelling, and genuine Kiwi hospitality together for today’s travellers.
The Relaxed Way to See Auckland: Why the Smart Traveller Skips the Hop Off
When you picture a Hop On Hop Off tour, you probably think of endless stops, crowded queues, and scrambling to get a seat again before the next leg of the journey.
But there’s a new way to see Auckland — one that brings back the romance of travel without the stress of logistics.
Meet the Double Decker Discovery by Vintage Views — Auckland’s “Hop On Hop Off … Without the Off.”
It’s sightseeing made simple, scenic, and delightfully nostalgic — designed especially for cruise passengers and travellers who want maximum experience with minimum hassle.
🏝️ For Cruise Visitors: Time Is Your Most Precious Souvenir
If your ship docks at Queens Wharf or Princes Wharf, you’ve only got a few golden hours to taste what Auckland is all about. Between the Sky Tower, harbour views, museums, and leafy parks, the city’s highlights are spread across several kilometres — and a typical hop-on-hop-off service can easily eat half your day in wait times.
That’s why more and more cruise guests are choosing stay-on sightseeing tours like Vintage Views’ Double Decker Discovery — a full-loop guided experience that delivers the best of Auckland in one continuous, story-filled journey.
From the waterfront to the volcanic skyline, you’ll see more, learn more, and actually relax.
🌇 A Sightseeing Experience That Feels Like a Sunday Drive
There’s something magical about sitting on the upper deck of a red Routemaster bus as it glides through Auckland’s heart.
Below you, the city hums with cafés and ferries; above you, the skyline unfolds in every direction. Your host points out the historic villas of Parnell, the striking glass of the Sky Tower, the panoramic Harbour Bridge, and the sparkling blue of the Waitematā Harbour.
The difference? You’re never rushing to hop off.
You’re not checking your watch, or wondering where the next stop is.
You’re simply present — taking in Auckland from the best seat in the city.
🚍 Meet “Dorothy” — The Star of the Streets
At the heart of the experience is Dorothy, a 1960s London Routemaster double-decker lovingly restored by the Dale family in Auckland.
Her classic red livery, brass fittings, and timber floors turn every ride into a moving piece of history.
While she’s vintage on the outside, Dorothy has been upgraded for today’s travellers:
Comfortable seating with great visibility,
Clear onboard commentary audio,
A smooth, steady ride through city streets.
She’s more than a bus — she’s a conversation starter, a time capsule, and a symbol of the Kiwi passion for preservation and hospitality.
🌉 The Route: A Moving Postcard of Auckland
Your journey covers Auckland’s most iconic highlights, weaving together urban energy, natural beauty, and local heritage.
Highlights include:
Auckland War Memorial Museum — set atop the Domain, surrounded by history and native trees.
Mission Bay — palm-lined promenade and glittering harbour views.
Parnell Village — boutiques, heritage villas, and cobblestone charm.
Harbour Bridge & Westhaven Marina — stunning skyline perspectives.
Sky Tower — Auckland’s landmark rising through every photo frame.
Each section is narrated live by your local guide, blending Māori stories, fun trivia, and modern Kiwi insights.
🕒 Why “Hop On Hop Off … Without the Off” Works So Well
Traditional hop-on-hop-off tours were designed for big cities with hours to spare. But Auckland’s cruise passengers often have just one day. By keeping you onboard, the Double Decker Discovery ensures:
No wasted waiting time.
No confusion about stops.
No risk of missing your ship.
Just pure sightseeing joy.
It’s efficiency meets elegance — the way sightseeing should feel.
🧭 Perfectly Timed for Cruise Itineraries
Whether your cruise arrives at 9 AM or noon, the Vintage Views schedule fits neatly into your shore window.
Each circuit lasts about 90 minutes, and buses depart conveniently from Queen Street / Customs Street, less than two minutes’ walk from the wharf.
Many guests enjoy combining the tour with a light lunch along the waterfront, or a short stroll through the Viaduct Basin before re-boarding.
🌿 Travel with Care — The Tiaki Promise in Action
Vintage Views proudly upholds New Zealand’s Tiaki Promise, encouraging visitors to care for the land, the people, and the spirit of Aotearoa.
Your guide shares gentle reminders about protecting our coastlines, respecting cultural heritage, and travelling thoughtfully.
By choosing a refurbished heritage vehicle, you’re also supporting sustainable tourism — giving new life to a piece of transport history instead of creating new emissions from modern fleets.

🌞 The Best Way to Begin (or End) Your Auckland Day
Whether you’re arriving fresh off a ship or staying overnight, the Double Decker Discovery sets the tone for your Auckland experience: relaxed, scenic, and full of heart.
It’s sightseeing that tells a story — of the city, its people, and the golden age of travel.
So next time someone suggests a hop-on-hop-off tour, smile and say:
“We’re doing Hop On Hop Off … Without the Off.”
Hop On, Hop Off… Without the Hop Off — Auckland’s Relaxed Way to See It All
If you’ve ever tried to explore a new city on a “Hop-On Hop-Off” bus, you’ll know the feeling: excitement at first, then a little confusion, maybe some waiting around, and a few missed stops later — you realise you spent more time planning than seeing.
That’s why Vintage Views was created.
Auckland deserved a simpler, more elegant way to experience its beauty — one smooth, curated journey, aboard a bus that’s as much part of the attraction as the city itself.
🌇 A New Take on Sightseeing
We call it the Double Decker Discovery Tour — a single, 90-minute journey through Auckland’s most iconic districts. No rushing. No complicated timetables. No “hop off” required.
Instead, you sit back, relax, and watch the city unfold: the Viaduct’s yachts and cafés, Ponsonby’s villas, K Road’s creative murals, Parnell’s leafy avenues, and Mission Bay’s coastal drive.
It’s the perfect balance between tour and escape — a chance to see everything without ever feeling like a tourist.
🚍 Meet Dorothy — Our 1960s London Routemaster
Every great story has a main character, and ours is Dorothy.
Built in London in the 1960s, she served generations of commuters before finding new life in Auckland. Restored with care, she’s now a piece of living history — and the heart of the Vintage Views experience.
Her design isn’t just iconic; it’s timeless. Wide windows, rich red paint, brass trim, and that unmistakable hum that turns every ride into theatre.
Where the hop-on-hop-off buses feel like transit, Dorothy feels like a celebration.
🎧 Guided by Story, Not Schedules
Our commentary is crafted, not automated.
Every story comes from Aucklanders who know the streets — from the history of the harbour to the secrets of Parnell’s villas.
Guests often say it’s like sightseeing with a friend who knows all the best stories. You’ll learn, laugh, and still have time to take in the views without juggling timetables or tickets.
🏙️ Why “Hop On, Hop Off” Isn’t Always the Best Fit
There’s no denying the convenience of hop-on-hop-off systems — they work beautifully in cities built for them. But Auckland is different: compact, scenic, and full of winding streets and neighbourhoods best appreciated as a journey, not a checklist.
Hop-on-hop-off tours can be fragmented. You leave the rhythm, you wait for the next bus, and you lose that continuous story of the city.
Vintage Views offers the opposite: continuity.
It’s the Auckland sightseeing experience that flows — every turn, every district, every skyline view connecting seamlessly.
🧭 What You’ll See Along the Way
CBD & Viaduct Harbour – ferries, superyachts, and the heart of the waterfront.
Ponsonby & K Road – culture, creativity, and boutique architecture.
Parnell – leafy streets and heritage homes.
Mission Bay – seaside beauty framed by Rangitoto Island.
Each area tells its own chapter in Auckland’s story — from early settlement to today’s dynamic cityscape.

Auckland’s Classic Soul: How Vintage Views Is Reviving the City’s Story, One Tour at a Time
Auckland’s Classic Soul: How Vintage Views Is Reviving the City’s Story, One Tour at a Time
Auckland moves fast. New cafés open every week, glass towers rise higher, and the skyline changes almost monthly.
But look closer—past the reflections of the harbour, beneath the hum of modern traffic—and you’ll find something quietly extraordinary: a city that still remembers where it came from.
At Vintage Views, we’ve always believed Auckland deserves to be seen slowly. Not from behind a steering wheel, not through the window of a commuter bus—but from the top deck of a lovingly restored 1960s London Routemaster, where time feels measured in stories rather than seconds.
And those stories are multiplying.
🚍 The Bus That Became a Beacon
When we first put Dorothy back on the road, we weren’t just launching a tour—we were bringing back a lost kind of travel: elegant, local, personal.
Since our first departure, the Double Decker Discovery Tour has introduced guests from across the world to Auckland’s landmarks—the Viaduct Harbour, Ponsonby, K Road, Parnell, and Mission Bay—through a blend of local insight and quiet nostalgia.
But somewhere between the chrome of the city and the brass of the bus, something unexpected happened: people started asking about the old Auckland—the heritage hotels, restored villas, and boutiques that felt like time capsules.
That curiosity became Vintage Vibes Auckland—our new editorial project dedicated to the city’s timeless side.
🌆 What Vintage Vibes Auckland Is All About
Vintage Vibes Auckland is the natural next step for us: a curated storytelling hub celebrating the venues, shops, and people who keep Auckland’s character alive.
Each feature blends history, design, and local voice—think magazine-quality essays grounded in SEO-rich detail and interlinked with our tours, gallery, Google Business Profile, and Blogger satellites.
The series begins with The Grand Windsor – Auckland’s Art Deco Icon, followed by upcoming features on Tatty’s Ponsonby, Caretaker Bar, and MOTAT’s heritage restoration programme.
Every month, another layer of Auckland’s history will unfold.
🧭 Inside the Five Neighbourhoods That Shape Our City
1. CBD & Viaduct Harbour — Where It All Begins
Steel meets stone. From the Sky Tower to the Ferry Building, the CBD balances progress and preservation. Our tours depart here daily, right beside some of the city’s oldest façades still standing proud.
2. Ponsonby — Where Style Meets Substance
Boutiques, vintage shops, and villa architecture make this suburb a living gallery. The upcoming Tatty’s Ponsonby story will highlight how sustainable fashion gives old fabrics new life.
3. Karangahape Road (K Rd) — Creative Edge & Cultural Heart
Murals, record stores, and speakeasy bars like Caretaker carry on the spirit of 20th-century bohemia. This district is the pulse of Auckland’s modern retro revival.
4. Parnell — Heritage & Harmony
Leafy streets, galleries, and the Auckland Museum keep history beautifully intact. Our “Antique Walk” feature will celebrate dealers preserving craftsmanship across generations.
5. Mission Bay — Coastal Classic
Tamaki Drive’s 1930s seawall and heritage rotunda remind us that leisure has always been part of Auckland’s design. Sunset from the top deck here is a postcard moment—no filter needed.
🎟️ See the City, See the Story
If you love connecting past and present, join us.
Book a Double Decker Discovery Tour, explore Vintage Vibes Auckland, and follow our network of heritage storytellers.
Auckland isn’t just a destination—it’s a timeline.
And from the top deck, you can see every chapter.
Discover Parnell — Auckland’s Heritage Heart from the Top Deck
When Auckland’s first settlers arrived in the 1840s, they built their homes on the gentle green ridges that would become Parnell — a suburb that still carries more history per metre than almost anywhere in the city.
Today, our Vintage Views Double Decker Discovery Tour glides quietly through those same leafy streets, and from the top deck of our lovingly restored 1960s London Routemaster, the view is unforgettable: villas framed by jacarandas, the glass dome of the Auckland War Memorial Museum shining above the trees, and the harbour glittering beyond.
This is where Auckland’s story begins — and where old meets new in the most elegant way.
🌳 A Journey Through Time and Design
As Dorothy (our Routemaster) turns off Parnell Rise, the hum of the city softens. You’re suddenly in another era — where restored wooden villas line the hillsides and boutiques occupy century-old brick storefronts.
From the top deck, you can trace the timeline of architecture: Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian — all within a few blocks. Parnell isn’t a museum suburb; it’s a living gallery of Auckland’s evolution.
The bus rounds past Auckland Domain, one of the city’s great green lungs. From here, the War Memorial Museum sits proudly above the trees — an iconic neoclassical building dedicated to remembering New Zealand’s service history. For guests who love heritage and history, this is one of the most striking vantage points in the entire tour.
👉 Learn more about the area on AucklandNZ.com
🛍️ Culture, Cafés, and Character
Below the leafy canopy, Parnell hums with art and conversation. Local galleries showcase contemporary New Zealand artists, cafés spill onto sunny terraces, and boutique stores invite exploration.
Our guests often remark how the Double Decker Discovery Tour captures both worlds — from the elegance of Parnell’s upper terraces to the lively cafés along Parnell Road. It’s one of those rare places where you can sip a flat white beneath 19th-century timber beams, while watching a 1960s London bus roll by — history in motion.
🕊️ The View That Captures Auckland
As we climb towards Auckland Domain, the top deck opens up a cinematic view: the Sky Tower rising in the distance, the curve of the Waitematā Harbour, and the city framed by pohutukawa trees.
There’s no need to hop on and off — this part of the route is designed for relaxation and photography. Guests simply sit back, enjoy the gentle motion of Dorothy, and take in a panorama that even many locals never see from this angle.
It’s moments like these that make the Vintage Views experience different from anything else in Auckland — calm, nostalgic, and immersive.

For those visiting Auckland for the first time, Parnell offers a snapshot of everything that makes the city special:
History — one of the city’s oldest suburbs, home to early colonial architecture.

Culture — art galleries, cafés, boutiques, and the peaceful Holy Trinity Cathedral.
Proximity — minutes from the CBD and on the direct route to Mission Bay.
That’s why it’s such a highlight of our 90-minute Double Decker Discovery Tour — a place where stories come to life as you glide through from your seat aboard a piece of rolling history.
🌏 Local Love, Global Values
As part of New Zealand’s tourism community, Vintage Views proudly supports the principles of the Tiaki Promise — to care for our people, our place, and our culture.
We encourage every guest to travel responsibly, respect local communities, and appreciate the heritage that makes Auckland unique.
When you see Parnell from the top deck, you’ll understand why it deserves to be cherished.

💖 Local, Family-Run, Authentically Kiwi
Vintage Views is proudly Auckland-owned and family-operated by Benjamin Dale, who brings 20+ years of tourism experience to every decision — from the restoration details to the route and commentary.
That local pride shows in the small things: a genuine welcome, a thoughtful pace, and a tour that feels personal without trying too hard.
📸 Built for the Modern Traveller
Dorothy is unapologetically photogenic.
From the moment she rounds a corner, cameras come out. Her bright red livery pops against Auckland’s blues and greens; her curves echo a time when travel felt glamorous.
We designed the route to maximise photo moments — Viaduct shimmer, skyline reflections, and seaside scenes at Mission Bay.

Because the best way to see Auckland…
is from the top deck of an icon.
Why We Built a City Tour That’s About the Journey — Not Just the Stops
Auckland has plenty of ways to see the city.
You can hop on and off at landmarks, race from one attraction to another, or try to squeeze a dozen sights into a single day. But sometimes, in the rush to “see everything,” you end up missing the best part — the simple joy of being there.
That’s why we built Vintage Views: a sightseeing tour that slows everything down. A tour where you can sit back, relax, and see Auckland unfold from the top deck of a beautifully restored 1960s London Routemaster double-decker bus.
🚍 The Idea Behind Vintage Views
The idea was born from a simple question: what if seeing Auckland felt more like an experience and less like a schedule?
Our founder, Benjamin Dale, has spent over 20 years in New Zealand’s tourism industry and nearly a decade operating transport services across Auckland. Over that time, he’s watched thousands of visitors arrive, eager to see the city — and leave feeling they’d barely had a moment to breathe it in.
“We wanted to create something that brought back the romance of travel,” says Ben. “A tour that wasn’t about ticking boxes, but about enjoying the view — literally.”
And so Dorothy was born — a lovingly restored Routemaster that once served the streets of London, now carrying guests through Auckland’s skyline and seaside suburbs.
🏙️ Seeing Auckland Differently
The Vintage Views City Tour isn’t a hop-on hop-off service.
It’s a guided 90-minute journey designed for people who want to see the best of Auckland without worrying about where to get off next.
The route covers all the highlights — Sky Tower, Viaduct Harbour, Ponsonby, Parnell Village, and Mission Bay — but it’s not about rushing through them. It’s about seeing the city as a whole story: the old and the new, the skyline and the sea, the history and the humour.
Each tour is hosted by friendly local guides who share stories, insights, and a few good laughs along the way. You’ll learn how Auckland grew from a colonial harbour to a modern cultural hub, why Ponsonby’s villas are painted in pastel hues, and what makes Mission Bay such a favourite local escape.
💺 Comfort, Charm & Connection
The Routemaster was designed for conversation and community — two decks of open seating, wide windows, and that unmistakable red exterior that turns heads wherever it goes.
Inside, Dorothy is completely refurbished: comfortable seats, smooth suspension, and full weather protection (she’s not open-top, so your view stays perfect even on a rainy day).
Every seat is the best seat in the house.
From the top deck, you’ll see the city’s skyline glinting above the harbour; from the lower level, you’ll feel part of the streetscape as you roll through Auckland’s neighbourhoods.
This isn’t just sightseeing — it’s story-seeing.
🌤️ Designed for Every Traveller
We built Vintage Views to suit everyone:
Cruise visitors docking in Auckland who want an easy, comfortable, memorable way to explore.
Families looking for something unique and affordable that kids will actually enjoy.
Couples wanting a relaxed, photo-worthy experience that fits any itinerary.
Locals who’ve lived here for years but never seen Auckland from this angle.
The beauty of the Routemaster is timeless. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a lifelong Aucklander, it makes the familiar feel new again.
💬 Experience Over Itinerary
Many tours focus on convenience.
We focus on connection.
Our guests don’t spend their day waiting for buses or checking maps — they get to sit, smile, and enjoy the ride. It’s the difference between watching Auckland go by and feeling like part of it.
The tour is structured as one seamless journey: you board once, travel in comfort, and finish with a richer sense of the city — not just a handful of photos, but a story that stays with you.
It’s simple, it’s elegant, and it’s designed to make sightseeing feel like a pleasure again.
💸 Value That Speaks for Itself
With tickets starting from $49 for adults and $29 for children, Vintage Views is one of the most accessible premium experiences in Auckland.
But the real value isn’t just the price — it’s in the feeling.
The feeling of being on a true piece of transport history, hearing stories from real Aucklanders, and seeing the city from the best seat in town.
You won’t find another vehicle like Dorothy in all of New Zealand — or another tour quite like this one.
📸 Built for the Modern Traveller
Our guests often call it “the most photogenic tour in Auckland.”
The bus itself is a landmark on wheels — bright red, camera-ready, and instantly recognisable.
We designed our route to pass through the most scenic streets and viewpoints, giving you perfect photo moments at every turn. From the Viaduct’s shimmering water to the Sky Tower’s reflections at sunset, the view is always worth the click.
It’s not unusual for locals to stop, wave, or snap a photo as Dorothy passes by. The result? You don’t just see Auckland — you become part of its daily rhythm.
❤️ From Our Family to Yours
Vintage Views isn’t owned by a global tour chain — it’s a family-run local business built with pride and passion.
Ben and his family have poured their hearts into restoring Dorothy and crafting a tour that captures what makes Auckland special. Every departure feels personal — a welcome aboard, a smile, and the sense that you’re part of something genuine.
“My family and I wanted to create something lasting,” Ben says.
“Something that makes people smile, brings the city to life, and gives visitors a story to take home.”
🌆 The Journey Ahead
Vintage Views is just getting started, and every tour helps us grow — one smile, one story, one photo at a time.
As Auckland continues to evolve, we’ll keep celebrating its character, its beauty, and its people — all from the top deck of the world’s most beloved bus.
So next time you’re looking for a city tour that’s more than a route, come ride with us.
Experience Auckland the way it deserves to be seen — from a seat aboard Dorothy, where every journey is a view worth remembering.

Why Auckland’s Double-Decker Discovery Tour Is More Than Just Sightseeing
Introduction
When most people think of things to do in Auckland, they imagine climbing the Sky Tower, catching a ferry to Waiheke Island, or strolling through Ponsonby. These are great options — but what if you could experience Auckland in a way that’s both unique and unforgettable?
That’s where the Vintage Views Double-Decker Discovery Tour comes in.
It’s not just a sightseeing trip. It’s a journey on a restored 1960s London Routemaster bus, blending history, style, and unbeatable views. It’s the kind of tour that transforms how you see a city — and how the city sees you.
A Bus With a Story 🚍
The Routemaster is an icon. Built in the 1960s, it once carried Londoners across the city. Today, after careful restoration, it lives again in Auckland.
From the polished chrome to the unique staircase, everything about this bus exudes vintage charm. Climbing aboard feels like stepping into another era — yet it moves seamlessly through Auckland’s modern streets.
This alone makes it more than just transport. It’s a living piece of history.
The Journey: Auckland Like You’ve Never Seen It 🌆
The Waterfront Drive
The tour kicks off in the CBD, before cruising along Tamaki Drive. On one side, you’ve got the city skyline; on the other, the sparkling Waitematā Harbour. The highlight? Mission Bay — sandy beaches, palm trees, and Rangitoto Island rising in the distance.
Parnell’s Leafy Lanes
From the seaside, the route swings up through Parnell, where galleries, historic churches, and boutique shops line the streets. It’s a side of Auckland many visitors miss, but from the top deck, it’s impossible to overlook.
Grafton Bridge & K Road
Crossing Grafton Bridge offers sweeping views, followed by the electric energy of Karangahape Road (K Rd). Street art, neon, and music spill into the streets — a contrast to Parnell’s quiet charm.
Ponsonby Vibes
Next, the bus rolls down Ponsonby Road. Trendy cafes, colourful villas, and vibrant nightlife make this neighbourhood one of Auckland’s coolest stops. From the Routemaster’s top deck, it’s like watching the city’s social hub come alive.
The Harbour Bridge Crossing
No Auckland tour is complete without crossing the Auckland Harbour Bridge. From the top deck, you’ll get views few others ever see: the city skyline reflected on the water, framed by the Hauraki Gulf.
More Than Just Sights: The Experience ✨
A Moving Landmark
Wherever it goes, the Routemaster attracts attention. Pedestrians wave, cars slow down, and phones come out to snap photos. When you’re on board, you’re part of the attraction.
Perfect for Families
With children’s tickets at just $19, it’s a family-friendly way to see the city. Kids love climbing the staircase and sitting on the top deck, while parents appreciate the comfort and nostalgia.
Instagram Gold 📸
From the red bus itself to the views along the route, this tour is a photographer’s dream. Whether you’re a casual Instagrammer or a pro content creator, you’ll leave with shots worth sharing.

Top 7 Reasons the Double-Decker Discovery is Auckland’s Most Instagrammable Tour
Introduction
Auckland is full of things to do — from climbing the Sky Tower to sailing across the harbour, from strolling Ponsonby Road to relaxing at Mission Bay. But in the age of social media, travellers want more than just sightseeing; they want experiences worth sharing.
Enter the Vintage Views Double-Decker Discovery Tour. From the top deck of our lovingly restored 1960s London Routemaster bus, Auckland transforms into a moving backdrop of photo opportunities, vintage vibes, and shareable moments.
Here are seven reasons why this tour is not only unforgettable in person but also the most Instagrammable way to see Auckland.
1. The Routemaster Bus Itself 🚍✨
Before the bus even starts moving, you’ve got the perfect shot. The bright red Routemaster, polished chrome accents, and iconic curved lines scream vintage charm. Parked in the CBD, it already draws attention and curious glances — so why not snap that first picture before the ride even begins?
2. Elevated Views From the Top Deck 🌆
Photos hit differently when they’re taken from above. The Routemaster’s top deck offers elevated angles of Auckland’s skyline, bustling streets, and harbour views. Whether it’s the glass towers of the CBD or leafy Parnell lanes, you’re shooting from the best seat in the house.
3. Mission Bay’s Waterfront Magic 🌊
As the tour cruises along Tamaki Drive, Mission Bay unfolds — sandy beach, swaying palms, Rangitoto Island rising in the distance. Capture a wide shot of the coast or a selfie with the waves behind you. Mission Bay is one of Auckland’s most photogenic stops, and the ride there is just as scenic.
4. Ponsonby Style 🎨🍸
Ponsonby isn’t just a neighbourhood; it’s an aesthetic. Colourful villas, murals, chic boutiques, and bustling cafes make for the perfect backdrop. Snap a street-style shot from the bus window, or use Ponsonby’s creative vibe as the canvas for your Instagram story.
5. The Thrill of the Harbour Bridge 🌉
Crossing the Harbour Bridge is a highlight in itself, but doing it from the top deck of a Routemaster? That’s once-in-a-lifetime. Panoramic shots of the skyline, reflections in the Waitematā Harbour, and the adrenaline of rolling across in vintage style make this a golden moment for reels and stories.
6. Parnell & K Road Contrast 🖼️🎶
The leafy charm of Parnell and the eclectic energy of K Rd couldn’t be more different — but both shine from the top deck. It’s the perfect chance to capture Auckland’s diverse character in a single tour: elegant galleries one moment, neon lights and street art the next.
7. A Ride That Turns Heads 🚍📸
Let’s be real: people on the street will stop and stare. The Routemaster is impossible to ignore, and when you’re on board, you’re part of the spectacle. Passengers waving from the top deck? That’s Instagram gold, and it feels as fun as it looks.
More Than Just a Pretty Picture 📲
While it’s easy to focus on the photos, the experience itself is what makes the shots shine. The laughter of your group, the feeling of history under your feet, and the excitement of seeing Auckland differently all come through in your content.
It’s no wonder travellers say this tour feels like stepping into both the past and the future: nostalgia on wheels, rolling through a modern city.
Make Your Day Complete 🌟
The Double-Decker Discovery is just the beginning. Pair it with other top Auckland experiences for a full day of fun:
